Meeting Summary

The second SOTS meeting on GU cancer focused on the potential efficacy of various treatment modalities and the value of predictive factors in the management of superficial bladder cancer. Panelists discussed the development of markers for detection, invasion/progression, prognosis, and response to therapy, as well as the refinement of risk stratification methodologies to improve grading and staging accuracy. Study design issues discussed included how best to optimize allocation of time and resources across phase I, II, and III trials; and maintaining a separate, coordinated global group for superficial bladder cancer in addition to the established clinical networks for cancer trials. Also explored was the potential modification of urothelial tract access methods for treatment administration.
