Meeting Summary
The third SOTS meeting on lung cancer focused on issues surrounding the evaluation and treatment of patients with screening-detected pulmonary lesions < 1 cm in size. The meeting addressed diagnostic imaging advances, surgical approaches and controversies, radiotherapeutic approaches, novel chemotherapeutic agents, lesion pathology, correlative biologic questions, and tissue acquisition. Specific topics included use of PET and contrast CT scanning and computer analysis to characterize small pulmonary nodules, alternate surgical resection techniques, including video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery, merits of limited vs. extensive tumor resection, sentinel lymph node biopsy, sterotaxic radiotherapy, molecularly-targeted therapies, and aerosolized chemotherapeutics delivery.
