SUMMARY OF LUNG CANCER MEETINGS
Since the inception of the State of the Science (SOTS) meetings in 1999, three meetings on lung cancer have been held. They have covered new advances in the diagnosis and treatment of non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and small-cell lung cancer and a meeting devoted entirely to screening-detected lung cancer involving lesions < 1 cm in size. The meetings have provided a flexible forum for interaction between clinician investigators familiar with the needs, problems, and opportunities presented by lung cancer and laboratory researchers working in the areas of lung cancer angiogenesis, radiobiology, immunotherapy, gene therapy, and cellular mechanisms of growth, development, and oncogenesis. Participants have represented academia, industry, community physicians and other caregivers, and patient advocacy organizations.
